Carpet Creations Flooring & Bed Centre was started by Philip Holt in 1996.

Philip was born in Newhey and started his working life at Lanebottom Co-op at the age of 15. He was originally enrolled on a YTS (Youth Opportunity Training Scheme) and was paid £27.50 per week. He recalls the early days at Lanebottom Co-op being the most influential with the perfect mentors in Mr Geoffrey Hargreaves and his (Auntie) Ms Shirley Marsden. Lanebotton Coop was the area’s leading retailer offering quality goods at highly discounted prices while ensuring the highest level of customer service.

Philip was made redundant in 1996. He was undecided whether to help out on the family sheep farm or continue down the Carpet and Flooring retail path. The decision was to continue with Carpets and he opened a small shop at 24 Dale Street, Milnrow on the 1st June 1996. The business grew from strength to strength, and after 12 years he purchased the old Video Shop at 12-18 Dale Street Milnrow, which was in fact the The ‘blue store’ otherwise known as Milnrow Conservative Industrial Cooperative Society Ltd Milnrow, which was quite fitting due o the Lanebottom Cooperative connection. The support of his family and in particular, his late mother Valerie gave him the confidence to push this Local Family Business to new levels and the bigger premises gave them the opportunity to create a much larger customer friendly showroom with the addition of an extensive bed showroom on the first floor. Mr Cedric Thompson (former Bed Manager at Wild’s , Lanebottom, Mann’s) was employed to build the bed business, his expertise and knowledge were crucial is obtaining accounts with some of the leading manufacturers including SILENTNIGHT, REST ASSURED, SEALY, BURGESS, HIGHGROVE and many more.The Lanebottom theme ran through the heart of the business with several former Lanebottom employees being reunited and once again working along side eachother.

The ground floor allowed them to have designated display areas to showcase Carpets and Flooring from ALL the major Carpets manufacturers, LVT and Wood manufactures. Carpet Creations are the ONLY Carpet, Flooring & Bed Retailer in the area to offer carpets from BRINTONS, ULSTER, PENTHOUSE, CORMAR, ADAM, CAVALIER, BROCkWAY, AW, and many more plus LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tiles) from AMTICO, INVICTUS, KARNDEAN, MODULEO, POLYFLOR and many more. Philip is very aware about the importance of a good quality underlay. He quote’s ‘when I first started in carpets over 43 years ago my auntie said to me that you can always put a low quality carpet on a good underlay but NEVER put a good quality carpet on a cheap or inferior underlay’. Carpet Creations truly is a ‘family business’ in every sense of the word. Philip’s son-in-law (Javier) is a leading member of the fitting team with Philip’s son (Toby) currently coming to the end of his apprenticeship, they are often referred as the ‘Dynamic Duo’. There are several other family members who all make a contribution to the business including Philips daughters and younger brother David. The team has been assembled over many years with all members of staff being fully qualified to give advice on every aspect of carpets, flooring and Beds to ensure that customers can make an informed choice.

We have built up a large customer base over the last 40 years of being in the industry, fitting carpets and flooring for many high profile Celebrities and Premier League football personalities, however every job is equally important regardless. We never lose sight of the fact that customer’s are the most important ingredient for our business and without customer’s there is no business. When it comes to being competitive on price we can beat any like for like quotation.
